Pil'skaya Suite - Pil'River, Okha District, Sakhalin (Miocene of Russian Federation)

Where: Russian Federation (52.6° N, 143.2° E: paleocoordinates 53.4° N, 141.2° E)

• coordinate based on nearby landmark

• local area-level geographic resolution

When: Pil'skaya Formation, Early/Lower Miocene (23.0 - 16.0 Ma)

• STRATIGRAPHIC RELATIONS: From the Pil'skaya suite of the lower "Dagi" and "Uynin" horizons, which lies below the "Okobykay" (Late Miocene) and above the "Kholmsk" (Late Miocene) horizons. THICKNESS: Total thickness of unit is 980 m. AGE: Early Miocene, on the basis of classification into the "lower Dagi/Uynin" horizon. STRATIGRAPHIC POSITION: Composite checklist for the "formation" in this area.

• formation-level stratigraphic resolution

Environment/lithology: deep-water; lithified, concretionary, argillaceous, cherty/siliceous mudstone and poorly lithified, concretionary, argillaceous sandstone

• ENVIRONMENT: Not stated in text; assumed to be cool-water deep-water setting on the basis of faunal composition and sedimentology.
• SPECIFIC LITHOLOGY: Flysch consisting of interbedded siliceous argillites, clays, stratified siliceous sediments and concretions, and sandstones with interbeds of siliceous argillites and concretions. LITHIFICATION: Lithified, assumed on the basis of age and facies.

Size class: macrofossils

Collection methods: COLLECTOR: Unknown, presumably Khomenko (c. 1934). REPOSITORY: Unknown repository.
